Maritime Decarbonisation and Digitalisation

Shipping, the backbone of global trade, is undergoing a transformation through the twin forces of Decarbonisation and Digitalisation. With the adoption of the IMO Initial Strategy for the reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from ships, countries have committed to reduce CO2 emissions per transport work, as an average across international shipping, by at least 40% by 2030, and to reduce total annual GHG emissions from international shipping by at least 50% by 2050 compared to 2008. Meanwhile, digitalisation has the potential to strengthen global supply chains, build connectivity and support sustainability efforts.Amidst this changing landscape, inclusivity and collaboration has never been more important.

Capacity Building and Technological Development

Global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping rely heavily on improvements in energy efficiency and increased uptake of low-carbon technologies. Better energy efficiency means less fuel is used, and that means lower emissions.Through technical co-operation, capacity building and technology transfer, we can ensure that no one is left behind in the journey towards attaining the levels of ambition in the IMO's Initial Strategy.
